As a reader.....
I've been a reader since I was in elementary. My mother used to tell me that I loved to read my English textbooks at home aloud. It was a happy sight for them. I remember when I was in 5th grade, I had a friend (actually a neighbor) who had books. I didn't have books other than the ones I used in the class. She wouldn't lend me her books unless I paid two-three pesos. I really loved reading back then (oh until now). So I agreed. Nothing could compare the happiness whenever I read them. I know how important reading is at a young age. These moments are unforgettable. I was upset at my friend for behaving that way. She earned it at a very young age. Ahahaha! Money seemed so important to her than friendship.
Another one is when my father asked the woman (who was going to throw the 9 Reader's Digest old issues) if he could keep them and give them to me. I was in second-year high school at that time. I was ecstatic when my father gave them to me when I went home from school. I still have the reader's digest. I read some of the articles many times especially the book section which Torey Hayden's Murphy's Boy and Somebody Else's Kids featured. These issues are 36 years ago (1980's issues).
When I was in high school, I enjoyed reading the Dictionary. I tried to learn new vocabulary every day. I started writing short stories in Filipino in High School. I started writing poetry and short stories in English in College. I've written lots of poems, some short stories and essays, and several quotes that I wrote inspired by my experiences and other people's experiences.
I wanted to be an author as well but I know I can't achieve this dream. This dream is too impossible to reach. I'd be contented to just self-publish all my writings throughout the years. I plan to make 10 copies and give them for free to the people who never stop supporting me on Wattpad (I can give you my username there if you are interested to read my works. I could use a new reader that I know. Mostly I have silent readers). I've never met these people in person but they support me. None of my real-life friends ever support me being a (trying hard) writer. As a matter of fact, my ex-close friend even told me that I wasn't really a writer. I was hurt and disappointed. I door-slammed her anyway. 😄 Oh! By the way, I'm INFJ! I'm very introverted, shy and I have social anxiety. I have undiagnosed depression and I was suicidal.
I never stop loving books and reading. I didn't own any book (except from the book my virtual American friend sent me in 2011) until someone told me about the used book store in 2013. I would then save the money my parents gave me to buy books. Used book stores are the best! I'm so grateful they exist! So I started buying and collecting books, most of them are thriller, mystery, horror, crime and police procedural. These are my fave genres. However, I read all kinds of genres. I'm not a picky reader. I read whatever is available to read. My fave authors are Jeffery Deaver, John Sandford, Dean Koontz, James Patterson, Sue Grafton, Mary Higgins Clark, and Dorothea Benton Frank. Choosing my fave books is one of the hardest things to do in life. But if you insist that I have one, it would be The Bone Collector by Jeffery Deaver. 💖
I own books since 2013 and I wouldn't do the same thing as my friend did. I'll lend books (and give books) because I want others to read not expecting something in return.
